چکیده
Abstract Improving knowledge about African historical demography is essential to addressing current population trends and achieving deeper understanding of social, economic, political change in the past present. I use census parish register data from Tanganyika address origins twentieth-century growth, describe how major changes fertility child mortality began 1940s, emphasise significance large rise between 1940s 1970s. Comparative Demography of an At-Risk African Elephant Population
Knowledge of population processes across various ecological and management settings offers important insights for species conservation and life history. In regard to its ecological role, charisma and threats from human impacts, African elephants are of high conservation concern and, as a result, are the focus of numerous studies across various contexts. Here, demographic data from an individual...
متن کاملInferences of demography and selection in an African population of Drosophila melanogaster.
It remains a central problem in population genetics to infer the past action of natural selection, and these inferences pose a challenge because demographic events will also substantially affect patterns of polymorphism and divergence. Thus it is imperative to explicitly model the underlying demographic history of the population whenever making inferences about natural selection. In light of th...
متن کاملInfluence of Population Demography and Immunization History on the Impact of an Antenatal Pertussis Program
BACKGROUND Antenatal pertussis vaccination is being considered as a means to reduce the burden of infant pertussis in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), but its likely impact in such settings is yet to be quantified. METHODS An individual-based model was used to simulate the demographic structure and dynamics of a population with characteristics similar to those of LMICs. Transmissio...

In this paper I propose that evolutionary demography and associated theory from human behavioral ecology provide a strong basis for explaining the available evidence for the patterns observed in the first agricultural settlement of Europe in the 7th-5th millennium cal. BC, linking together a variety of what have previously been disconnected observations and casting doubt on some long-standing e...
